Choose for: A smaller station with optional stacked battery expansion.
Limit: The stated 858 Wh total requires the separate 572 Wh EB600 battery.
Choose EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus for most shorter camera-and-laptop trips: its station weighs about 10.4 lb, and EcoFlow quotes a full wall recharge in one hour. Choose BLUETTI Handsfree 2 if its 512Wh battery, dual 100W USB-C ports and dedicated camera backpack justify a heavier carry. That is a conditional recommendation: at our November 2, 2026 check, BLUETTI's US store data marked the station bundles unavailable while the backpack-only option remained available.

Capacity clarification: BLUETTI's introductory copy says “512Wh (268.8Wh).” Its Handsfree 1 specifications list 268.8Wh; the Handsfree 2 selector, detailed specifications and model-specific manual agree on 512Wh. We use that verified Handsfree 2 figure throughout this comparison.
The battery capacities above are nominal stored energy, not guaranteed energy delivered to your gear.

Best for shorter trips: EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus
RIVER is our default for a drive-to-location day with planned charging stops. Its smaller battery and lower station weight make sense when you value an easier carry over extra stored energy. Its manual specifies 100W USB-C output, 600W shared AC output and a separate 760W overall limit; check both the port and combined limits when charging several devices.

EcoFlow
A 10.4 lb, 286Wh LiFePO4 power station with 600W of AC output, a sub-10 ms UPS switchover, one-hour wall charging and expansion to 858Wh with a stackable extra battery.

- 600 W AC out

Use a compatible laptop on USB-C and put the camera's own charger on an appropriate remaining output. The USB-B connection serves computer/NAS communication, so do not count it as another charging socket. Keep the unit outside a closed bag during operation: EcoFlow instructs users not to obstruct cooling and to place it on a stable, flat surface.
Packing-list conflict: EcoFlow's manual lists the station, AC charging cable, USB-B-to-USB-A communication cable and documentation. The US series page's RIVER 3 Plus packing data additionally lists a car charging cable. Confirm that cable with the seller instead of assuming it arrives; the manual explicitly excludes the solar panel and solar-to-XT60i charging cable. Add your device cables and camera charger.
Conditional backpack pick: BLUETTI Handsfree 2
Handsfree 2 earns consideration when the bag itself solves a problem. BLUETTI describes adjustable compartments, side access aligned with the power ports and a U-shaped ventilation opening. Its two USB-C ports are rated up to 100W each, while its two USB-A ports share 15W. The manual caps combined AC and DC output at 700W; adding port ratings does not create a larger output allowance.
Buy the named package. The complete US kit is “Handsfree 2 | 60L Storage, 700W, 512Wh,” SKU HF2-2-01-SPFUS-00. The selector also offers power station only, BluePack 2 backpack only, and named SP100L or PV60L solar packages. The separate station-only-plus-panel option is another trap: a solar panel in the name does not establish that the bag is supplied.
The complete-kit manual lists the station, BP2 backpack, AC charging cable, MC4-to-XT60 solar cable, grounding screw, manual and warranty card. USB-C output cables and the car charging cable are optional. Bring the camera's charger and confirm the selected bundle's contents in writing.
Availability matters: the US store's saved variant data marks the complete kit, station-only version and solar packages unavailable; it marks BluePack 2 alone available. That does not establish discontinuation, but it makes Handsfree a conditional choice rather than a dependable immediate gift purchase.

Buying advice: carrying weight and access
16.5 lb is the station's weight, not a verified packed backpack weight. The saved US specifications do not establish a separate BluePack weight, so we cannot give a defensible complete-kit total. For either option, add the bag, charging cables, camera, lenses, laptop, water and any panel. Weigh that actual load before committing to a long walk; bag volume alone does not tell you whether the carry suits you.
Handsfree's slim station shape and dedicated openings offer a different packing layout from RIVER's squarer box. Compare the dimensions in the table with your existing bag, leaving space for connectors. We are not recommending an unverified third-party bag or assuming a generic RIVER accessory fits this model.
There is also an unresolved operating instruction: BLUETTI markets charging on the move, but the manual says to place Handsfree 2 horizontally for use and keep ventilation unobstructed. Until BLUETTI clarifies the approved carrying orientation, plan to charge at stops with the station horizontal, dry and ventilated.
Before leaving
Match device charging requirements, pack the actual cables and check the complete carrying load.
At the location
Put the station on a stable surface with ventilation clear; follow BLUETTI's horizontal-use instruction.
Before moving again
Disconnect and stow cables so connectors are not carrying the weight of your gear.
At the next outlet
Recharge within the maker's charging-temperature range and check the remaining trip energy.
Laptop and camera energy: a useful workday estimate
Start with laptop average watts × editing hours + camera-battery Wh × refills, then allow for conversion losses, station consumption and reserve. Use your gear's labels and charging requirements; we will not turn an unspecified “camera” into a promised number of recharges.
For a steady 40W AC workload, BLUETTI's own runtime method gives 512Wh × 90% depth of discharge × 85% inverter efficiency ÷ (40W load + 10W station consumption) ≈ 7.8 hours. This is an estimate using its manual's assumptions, not a measured laptop result. EcoFlow publishes 5.2 hours for a 40W NAS on RIVER 3 Plus. That is a separate manufacturer estimate, not a controlled comparison or an efficiency figure we can transfer between brands.
The practical choice: RIVER suits a shorter editing session with room to recharge; Handsfree offers more nominal energy for work away from outlets. Neither estimate budgets additional camera charging or a reserve. If the job cannot tolerate a flat battery, shorten the planned session, arrange a refill, or use the broader selector for more capacity.
Check the device's accepted USB-C power profiles, not just the connector shape. If your laptop requires more than the available USB-C output, use its compatible AC adapter within the station limits. BLUETTI's Power Lifting and EcoFlow's X-Boost are appliance-support modes; do not count either as extra rated power for a laptop charger. BLUETTI restricts lifting to resistive loads, and EcoFlow excludes devices with voltage protection from X-Boost suitability.
Refill, winter use and gift checks
For a stop at a wall outlet, EcoFlow quotes a full charge in one hour. BLUETTI's manual distinguishes Standard's two-hour refill from Turbo's 80% in 45 minutes and full charge in 80 minutes; select the intended mode rather than assuming every outlet stop produces the fastest result.
Solar planning needs the actual panel: Handsfree accepts up to 350W and RIVER up to 220W, within the voltage/current limits in the table. A smaller bundled panel does not deliver the station's maximum input. Check open-circuit voltage and the required cable before choosing a portable solar panel; avoid budgeting a fixed walking-solar refill.
Both charging ranges start at 32°F, even though their discharge ranges extend below freezing. A station that can power gear in the cold is not thereby approved to recharge at the same temperature. Move it into its specified charging range before plugging in.
BLUETTI's FAQ says Handsfree is not waterproof and recommends the rain cover, while avoiding prolonged rain exposure. EcoFlow's US page says its IP54 rating applies only to the battery pack; its manual says not to get the station wet. Neither claim makes exposed ports rainproof.
For Black Friday, Cyber Monday or a gift, verify the complete model, US outlets, bag, device cables, solar cable, panel and seller before ordering. Ask whether the return period reaches the recipient's first chance to inspect the kit. BLUETTI's direct-store policy limits non-quality returns to complete, unused items in original packaging within 30 days of purchase and makes the customer responsible for shipping both ways; distributor policies can differ. Keep the packaging and receipt, and confirm the actual seller's terms.
How we choose
We compared the makers' US pages, packing lists and manuals, checked on November 2, 2026. The recommendation weighs carrying routine, usable port access, battery capacity and recharge opportunities. It uses manufacturer specifications and clearly labelled runtime estimates; we have not physically evaluated these products. Missing packed weights stay unknown, conflicting cable lists and operating instructions stay visible, and BLUETTI's availability limits the recommendation. Affiliate links do not determine the pick.
Verdict
Choose RIVER 3 Plus for shorter shoots, a lighter station and planned outlet stops. Choose Handsfree 2 when you specifically want its integrated camera-bag layout, more stored energy and dual USB-C outputs, after confirming the complete US kit is available and suitable for your carrying routine. For a deadline gift, do not mistake an available BluePack-only option for the powered system; our broader station guide offers alternatives if either kit fails your requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Is BLUETTI or EcoFlow better for a camera and laptop?
For shorter trips with a charging stop, we would choose the lighter RIVER 3 Plus. Choose Handsfree 2 when its larger battery, dual 100W USB-C ports and dedicated camera backpack justify the extra load. That recommendation depends on finding the complete US kit: BLUETTI's store data marked its station bundles unavailable at our check. Match your laptop's charging requirements and camera charger to the actual ports before buying.
Does BLUETTI Handsfree 2 include the backpack?
The US selector offers both a complete Handsfree 2 kit with 60L storage and a power-station-only version. BluePack 2 is also sold by itself, and solar bundles have separate names. The complete-kit manual lists the BP2 backpack, station, AC cable, MC4-to-XT60 solar cable, grounding screw and documentation. USB-C output and car-charging cables are optional. Read the selected variant and packing list together; a backpack-only order contains no power station.
Can Handsfree 2 charge devices while you walk?
BLUETTI's product page promotes charging while carried and describes side access aligned with the output ports. However, its manual instructs users to place the station horizontally for use and to keep ventilation clear. Those instructions need clarification from BLUETTI before treating walking with it operating as an approved routine. Our recommendation is to carry the system between locations, then charge with the station horizontal, dry and ventilated.
Can RIVER 3 Plus charge a laptop and camera together?
It offers USB-C output up to 100W, USB-A output and AC sockets. A compatible laptop can use USB-C while a camera uses an appropriate USB-A or AC charger. Check both devices' required charging profiles and their combined load. The station's AC limit is 600W and its overall output limit is 760W. Its USB-B communication connection is for a computer or NAS, not an extra device-charging port.
Are RIVER 3 Plus, Max and Max Plus the same station?
EcoFlow identifies RIVER 3 Max as RIVER 3 Plus with the EB300 extra battery, giving 572Wh combined. Max Plus adds the EB600 instead, giving 858Wh combined. Both retain 600W rated AC output. The manual also covers a separate RIVER 3 Plus (270), which actually lists 268Wh; this comparison uses the 286Wh base RIVER 3 Plus. Check the full model and included battery before comparing packages.
