Match the model year, inlet and supplied equipment
Ford's US order guides specify J1772 AC charging within a CCS combo inlet, and up to 11kW with 48A capability, for the following years. The charge specification is listed as standard equipment; the mobile cord is an option. Choose by the inlet and AC limit, rather than the battery's advertised DC fast-charging rate.

Read the 2024, 2025 and 2026 order guides. The 2025 guide leaves the Job 2 production date undetermined: use the individual window sticker to settle bundle contents.
Buying a 2021–2023 car? Earlier year-specific AC ceilings and cord-option changes were not independently established in the fetched documents for this guide. Have Ford confirm those details for the VIN before ordering; do not backdate the table. Ford's early Mach-E installation sheet labels the mobile equipment as included with vehicle purchase, but that does not establish what remains with a used car. Inventory it physically.
Identify the car
Match its US model year, VIN paperwork and physical inlet.
Inventory the Ford kit
Check the mobile cord, both wall connectors and bracket; separate any DC adapter.
Approve the home setup
Have a licensed electrician assess permitted current, parking location and installation.
Best starting pick: Emporia Classic J1772
The Classic provides 11.5kW at 48A hardwired, or 9.6kW at 40A through its NEMA 14-50 connection. Its 25-ft cable, NEMA Type 4 enclosure and app scheduling make it our balanced starting choice on specifications. Emporia states UL 2594 certification, file E528156. Maker's specification sheet.
Order J1772, then choose plug-in or hardwired with the electrician. NACS is a separate connector version. Emporia's PowerSmart load management comes with the Pro and can be added to Classic separately; do not assume the basic Classic package includes it. See the maker's comparison and our Level 2 charger guide.
The app needs initial setup for current adjustments and automation. Emporia says essential settings and downloaded schedules survive Wi-Fi loss, while schedule updates need internet. That makes a temporary outage different from commissioning the charger without connectivity. Offline behavior.
Best simple charger: Grizzl-E Classic J1772
Choose the non-connected Classic, not Classic Connect, when you want a 40A, 9.6kW supply without an internet connection. The black NEMA 14-50 model is GR1-14-24-PB; a NEMA 6-50 wall-plug version is a different order choice. Its manual specifies an indoor/outdoor NEMA 4 enclosure and UL certification. Product page, manual.

Grizzl-E
Grizzl-E Classic 40A Level 2 EV Charger (J1772, NEMA 14-50)
A non-smart, 40A Level 2 home charger in an aluminum UL Type 4 enclosure with a 24-ft J1772 cable, a NEMA 14-50 plug and switchable current limits, made in Canada by United Chargers.
Check package and model options
- 40 A max
- 9.6 kW max
- J1772
Two maker conflicts matter. The page advertises 25 ft of cable, while the manual specifies 24 ft for this model family. It also has a generic connected-features banner despite its specification saying “No Internet Connection.” Confirm cable reach before ordering and use the car's scheduling if you need timed charging.
The trade-off is the 40A ceiling. Choose a different model if your approved installation and charging window justify 48A.
Alternative for ChargePoint app users: Home Flex J1772
Home Flex is UL/cUL listed, has a 23-ft cable, and offers 16A through 50A settings. ChargePoint limits plug-in configurations to 40A; higher settings need hardwiring. The Mach-E's documented 48A capability gives no reason to buy a larger installation solely to use the Flex's 50A setting. Installation FAQ.
For a new hardwired installation, the J1772 order code is CPH50-HARDWIRE-L23-K. For an approved matching outlet, choose CPH50-NEMA14-50-L23-K or CPH50-NEMA6-50-L23-K. The NACS versions are separate configurations; a listing saying only “Home Flex” is insufficient. Ordering datasheet.
Choose it for the ChargePoint app preference, after checking utility eligibility. We have not verified an exact Amazon variant, so choose the configuration at ChargePoint.
Keep-what-you-own choice: Ford Mobile Power Cord
The 2026 US manual describes an optional cord with 120V NEMA 5-15 and 240V NEMA 14-50 connectors, 32A maximum continuous current, and approximately 20 ft of cable. Keep a suitable supplied cord if it reliably replaces your daily energy in the available window; a fixed charger becomes useful when you need more current, different reach or a cord that stays at home.
Match the actual revision: a separate Ford mobile-cord sheet instead specifies 30A and 7.36kW. We do not merge those figures into a universal Ford-cord specification. The fetched Ford documents do not establish the mobile unit's safety listing mark; confirm it on the unit and with Ford before buying a replacement.
Ford says to use the supplied connectors, support the control box with its bracket, and avoid extension cords. Have a licensed electrician assess the outlet. US manual, Charging Your Vehicle.
Ford wallbox or aftermarket: check the offer first
Ask the dealer to document any Ford Power Promise entitlement, the exact charger supplied, installation exclusions and completion requirements before buying another wallbox. The archived Ford offer we could fetch is time-limited; it is not confirmation of current eligibility. Its terms also allow the charger model and brand to vary. Published Ford terms.
If the supplied unit is specifically the Ford Connected Charge Station LJ98-10C823-AC/AD, its manual specifies 48A, 11.5kW, J1772 and a 20-ft cable. Ford declares conformity to ANSI/UL2594:2016; that declaration alone does not verify the listing mark of a different supplied charger. This station requires professional hardwiring. Ford operation manual.
Size the purchase around overnight energy and parking
Start with energy to replace and hours actually available on your tariff. Estimated grid energy in kWh = volts × amps × hours ÷ 1,000. For an assumed 240V, 40A supply running for five hours, that is 48 kWh before losses. This is arithmetic, not a measured Mach-E recharge: vehicle limits and charging losses reduce energy stored; battery state and ambient conditions also matter. Emporia's stated 240V/40A output is 9.6kW; Ford's newer vehicle specification is up to 11kW, even when the wallbox advertises 11.5kW.
If that window comfortably covers your driving, more current may add little. A shorter cheap-rate window or frequent large replenishment makes the approved 48A option more useful. Do not size a home charger from a public DC charging figure.
Ford locates the charge port between the front left door and wheel well. Measure the cable route with the car parked normally, allowing slack and avoiding a stretched cable across a walking route. Cable length is not usable wall-to-port distance; settle the Grizzl-E discrepancy before choosing a marginal location.
Before ordering, ask the electrician about capacity, approved current, hardwired versus matching-outlet installation, outdoor suitability, permits and any supported load management. Hardwired EV chargers require a licensed electrician and a permit where required. Ask the utility for its exact eligible model/configuration, enrollment requirements and approved tariff before treating app scheduling as rebate eligibility. Choose one primary charging schedule and check the car and charger are not blocking each other.
Home AC equipment versus public DC adapters
Ford's manual explicitly says its NACS-to-CCS1 fast-charging adapter is DC-only, excluding wall connectors, destination chargers and mobile connectors. Buy native J1772 for the documented cars above; do not choose a NACS home charger because a DC adapter happens to be included.
- Yes: J1772 home AC connector for the documented US cars
- Partly: NACS Home Flex or Emporia: a different connector version
- No: Ford NACS fast-charging adapter on an AC wallbox
Our NACS/J1772 adapter guide covers adapter directions and the separate public-charging decision.
For holiday listings or a gift, confirm Classic versus Classic Connect, J1772 versus NACS, the wall connection, cable length, new versus refurbished condition, included connectors and warranty channel. Compare the complete approved package and installation quote. A familiar product-family name does not settle the variant.
How we choose
These are editorial picks based on official specifications, manuals, connector fit and documented limitations. We have not physically evaluated these chargers. We compare current, wall-connection variants, cable reach and app requirements; Ford's documents determine the vehicle limits. Unresolved maker conflicts and earlier-year evidence gaps remain visible. Unverified Amazon variants link to official sources. Commissions do not decide the picks (disclosure).
Verdict
Choose Emporia Classic J1772 for a new smart setup, or Grizzl-E Classic J1772 for simple charging within its current ceiling. Choose the J1772 Home Flex when its app or confirmed utility fit matters more. First check whether suitable Ford equipment already covers the job; order only after the car, supplied kit, cable route and electrician-approved installation are settled.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Mustang Mach-E use J1772 or NACS at home?
Ford's US order guides for 2024, 2025 and 2026 specify an SAE J1772 CCS charge port. Choose the J1772 version of a home AC charger for those cars. A NACS fast-charging adapter in the vehicle's kit does not make its inlet NACS. Ford's manual says that adapter is for DC charging only, excluding home wall connectors and mobile connectors. Confirm earlier cars against their own paperwork.
Is the Ford mobile charger included with a Mustang Mach-E?
Do not assume it is. The US 2024, 2025 and 2026 order guides list the Mobile Power Cord as optional. The 2025 guide also records a production change making the NACS fast-charging adapter separate from the cord. Check the car's window sticker and physically inventory the cord, both wall connectors and its bracket, especially when buying used. A wallbox promotion is a separate question.
Does a Mustang Mach-E need a 48A charger?
Ford specifies up to 11kW with 48A capability in its US 2024–2026 order guides. That makes a professionally installed 48A unit a useful choice for a short charging window, rather than a requirement for every household. A 40A unit can be enough when overnight energy covers the driving you replace. Ask a licensed electrician to approve the charging current and installation; plug-in Emporia and Home Flex versions stop at 40A.
Should I set the Mach-E charging limit to 90% or 100%?
Follow the manual for your battery and model year. Ford's 2026 US manual recommends 90% for everyday charging of the extended-range NCM battery. For the standard-range LFP battery, it says to set the maximum to 100% and charge to 100% at least monthly to maintain range accuracy. These are battery-specific instructions; do not apply one percentage to every Mach-E.
