For a 2024–2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV, choose Emporia Pro J1772 when you want smart charging with included PowerSmart load management, or Grizzl-E Classic J1772 for app-free charging up to 40A. For a 2027 Equinox EV, Chevrolet's new standard NACS port makes the Emporia Classic NACS our native-connector pick, with up to 48A hardwired and a 25-ft cable; confirm the car's onboard limit. Consider GM Energy PowerShift when the car has the documented higher AC-charging option or you are buying a supported GM home-backup system.

These are equipment ceilings, not promised battery charge rates. Sources: Emporia Pro specifications, Pro installation guide, Grizzl-E specifications, Grizzl-E manual, Emporia Classic specifications, Home Flex datasheet, PowerUp manual and PowerShift specifications. GM's compliance wording should not be expanded into a particular lab-listing claim; have the installer confirm the equipment label.
First identify the year, inlet and onboard option
GM's adapter selector groups its 2026-and-earlier EVs, with a named Cadillac exception, as CCS1 cars: home AC charging uses J1772. Chevrolet explicitly identifies NACS as standard for 2027 Equinox EV. A Supercharger adapter in the glovebox does not change the car's inlet.

GM's pages conflict. Chevrolet's general home-charging page describes a “2024 Equinox EV RST” with an optional 19.2kW module; the production launch specifications state 11.5kW standard. The 2026 guide also abbreviates the option as 19kW in one row and 19.2kW in the package description. Ask the dealer to verify the actual build; neither an RS badge nor a generic charging calculator proves the option is installed.
Before replacing existing equipment, check what you already have. The 2026 standard dual-level cord has NEMA 5-15 and 14-50 plugs, a J1772 connector, and 1.4kW at 120V / 7.7kW at 240V capability. Keep it if it meets your needs on an electrician-approved supply. Check delivered contents rather than assuming a used car retains its original cord.
Emporia Pro J1772: best with load management for 2024–2026

Emporia
Emporia Pro Level 2 EV Charger (J1772, 48A)
A 48A (11.5kW) smart Level 2 home charger with a J1772 connector and a 24- or 25-ft cable (Emporia's sources differ) that comes with Emporia's Vue 3 panel monitor for PowerSmart load balancing.
- 48 A max
- 11.5 kW max
- J1772
The Pro's 48A / 11.5kW hardwired ceiling matches the standard onboard specification above. With a NEMA 14-50 plug, it is limited to 40A / 9.6kW. It includes the Vue 3 panel monitor and PowerSmart software, which adjusts charging to available panel capacity. Choose it when the electrical assessment supports a managed-charging installation; the included monitor must be installed in the panel by an electrician.
Emporia states that Pro is UL certified, lists UL 2594 among its standards, and specifies a NEMA Type 4 enclosure and app scheduling. Its installation guide gives a 24-ft cable, while its product page says 25 ft. Confirm the delivered cable before planning the parking layout. Smart features need Wi-Fi; PowerSmart falls back to the pre-set Guaranteed Charge Rate if unavailable.
Choose the exact J1772 version for these CCS1 cars. Pro also comes with a NACS connector. The separate Classic J1772 has the same 48A hardwired / 40A plug-in ceilings, a 25-ft cable, UL 2594 certification, a NEMA Type 4 enclosure and app scheduling over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, but does not include PowerSmart as standard. Emporia says PowerSmart can be added to Classic for an additional cost. Compare the complete supported system when load management is needed.
Choose the J1772 connector and installation option at Emporia.
Grizzl-E Classic J1772: best app-free option

Grizzl-E
Grizzl-E Classic 40A Level 2 EV Charger (J1772, NEMA 14-50)
A non-smart, 40A Level 2 home charger in an aluminum UL Type 4 enclosure with a 24-ft J1772 cable, a NEMA 14-50 plug and switchable current limits, made in Canada by United Chargers.
Check package and model options
- 40 A max
- 9.6 kW max
- J1772
Choose the Classic GR1-14-24-PB, with a J1772 connector and NEMA 14-50 plug, when you want charging without an app or internet connection. Its 40A / 9.6kW ceiling is lower than the standard Equinox onboard specification, so use the daily-energy worksheet to decide whether that output meets your parking window. Hardwiring is optional and does not increase the Classic's maximum beyond 40A.
The installer can select 40A, 32A, 24A or 16A to suit the approved installation. The aluminum enclosure is UL Type 4, and the charger is UL listed, file E510712, and ENERGY STAR certified. The manual specifies a 24-ft cable for this model code, while the US product page says 25 ft; confirm the supplied version and allow for the shorter reach when measuring. This is the non-smart Classic; Classic Connect is a different model.
Check the exact Classic model at Grizzl-E.
Emporia Classic NACS: best native option for 2027

Emporia
Emporia Classic Level 2 EV Charger (NACS, 48A)
A 48A (11.5kW) ENERGY STAR smart Level 2 home charger with a NACS (SAE J3400) connector that opens the Tesla charge port, a 25-ft cable and NEMA Type 4 enclosure.
- 48 A max
- 11.5 kW max
- NACS (J3400)
Select Classic with the NACS connector, rather than the J1772 version. It offers 48A / 11.5kW hardwired, or 40A / 9.6kW with its NEMA 14-50 plug, a 25-ft cable, UL 2594 certification and a NEMA Type 4 enclosure. The app supports scheduling over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. These are charger ceilings; confirm the 2027 car's onboard AC limit before commissioning it. Classic does not include PowerSmart load management as standard; it is a separate paid upgrade.
Choose the NACS connector and installation option at Emporia.
ChargePoint Home Flex remains a manufacturer alternative for configurable current. Its NACS hardwired version is CPH50-HARDWIRE-L23-NACS-K. Home Flex offers 16, 24, 32, 40, 48 or 50A, a 23-ft cable, and UL/cUL listing. Its 12kW maximum describes the charger; confirm the 2027 car's onboard limit before commissioning it.
For an older J1772 Equinox, choose the J1772 Home Flex, including hardwired model CPH50-HARDWIRE-L23-K. The NEMA 14-50 and 6-50 plug versions are separate wall-plug choices, both limited to 40A. Vehicle connector and wall plug are independent selections. Our Home Flex version guide separates them.
Consider Home Flex when its documented current settings fit a constrained circuit. The electrician sets the appropriate limit; the ChargePoint app supplies charging controls. Choose the connector and installation option at ChargePoint.
GM PowerUp 2: J1772: best GM everyday option
This is the GM PowerUp 2: J1772, manual model EIAW-U11KSSU7E01T, offered through GM's official charger catalog. Its 48A / 11.5kW, 25-ft cable, NEMA 4X enclosure and vehicle-mobile-app integration make it the GM alternative for ordinary J1772 charging.
The manual identifies UL 2594, UL 2231 and UL 1998 under certificates. It requires professional installation. GM separately sells a PowerUp 2: NACS; do not select that connector for an older Equinox merely because it appears in the same catalog.
PowerUp 2 is incompatible with GM's V2H Enablement Kit. Buy it for charging convenience, rather than as the first component of a future GM backup installation. Check the exact J1772 charger through GM.
GM Energy PowerShift: best for the higher option or home backup
PowerShift provides up to 80A / 19.2kW, uses a 25-ft Combo CCS1 cable, and is hardwired only. Its 19.2kW rating is AC charging; backup discharge is separately rated at 9.6kW with the required kit. GM's specification sheet states compliance with UL and FCC guidelines. The user manual includes the charging coupler and holster; the wall-mounting hardware appears in the installation manual.
For a verified 19.2kW-capable Equinox, this is our GM-supported higher-output pick. For a standard 11.5kW car, its bigger output rating alone cannot increase the onboard AC ceiling. Backup is a separate reason to consider it.
The V2H Enablement Kit contains a Home Hub, inverter and Dark Start Battery and requires PowerShift. GM specifies a compatible vehicle and properly equipped home; ask GM to verify the VIN and complete installation. For NACS vehicles, GM distinguishes the PowerShift AC Charging Adapter for charging from the CCS1 DC Adapter used for backup. Have GM specify the supported package. Check PowerShift and its documents.

Daily-energy worksheet and cable reach
Fill in daily miles, your dashboard's recent miles per kWh, and hours parked within your intended charging window:
- Estimated battery energy to replace, in kWh = daily miles ÷ miles per kWh.
- Average power needed at the battery, in kW = that energy ÷ available charging hours.
- Allow additional time for charging losses, temperature and conditioning; compare the result with the slower of the vehicle and charger limits.
This is a planning estimate, not a full-battery charge-time promise. Chevrolet says battery condition, charge level, temperature and equipment capability affect charging. For broader options, see our Level 2 charger guide.
Park as you normally do and measure the cable's usable route, including slack at the inlet and storage position. Home Flex lists 23 ft; Emporia Classic and these GM chargers list 25 ft. Emporia Pro's installation guide and the Grizzl-E Classic manual specify 24 ft, while their product pages say 25 ft; confirm the delivered cable and plan around the shorter reach. Chevrolet prohibits extension cords, splitters and similar devices on the outlet connection. Choose a workable charger location with the electrician instead of planning around an extension.
Identify the car
Confirm model year, actual inlet and documented onboard charging option.
Check the supply
Have a licensed electrician assess capacity, location and the permitted charger setting.
Check the parking space
Measure the real cable route with slack, then confirm the selected version and delivered contents.
Home AC and public DC adapters are different
GM distinguishes the NACS home adapter from its DC fast-charging adapter. Its NACS-native instructions also distinguish ordinary J1772 AC charging from PowerShift charging and backup; a connector match alone is insufficient. See our adapter guide before buying a bridge.
- Yes: Match a J1772 charger to a 2024–2026 Equinox EV inlet
- Yes: Match a native NACS charger to the 2027 Equinox EV inlet
- Partly: Keep existing equipment when GM specifies the appropriate adapter and supported use
- No: Use the GM NACS DC adapter for home AC charging
- No: Expect PowerUp 2 to work with GM's V2H Enablement Kit
Holiday delivery and Black Friday checklist
Before ordering or gifting, get the recipient's model year, inlet, charging option and installation assessment. Match the exact charger generation, connector and wall connection; confirm cable, holster and mounting contents, seller, warranty channel, return window and delivery date. Compare the complete installed kit, including any required backup equipment or adapters, and check the current offer on the purchase day.
How we choose
We compare official vehicle specifications, GM feature bulletins, charger datasheets and manuals. The awards reflect compatibility and purchase decisions; this is document research without physical testing. Unresolved GM wording remains visible, and the 2027 row deliberately does not inherit an older car's AC rating or supplied equipment. Our disclosure explains affiliate links.
Verdict
Choose Emporia Pro J1772 for an earlier-year Equinox when you need smart charging with included load management, or Grizzl-E Classic J1772 when app-free charging up to 40A meets your daily needs. Choose Emporia Classic NACS for the new inlet, after checking the car's onboard AC rating. PowerUp 2: J1772 remains the GM app-integration alternative, and PowerShift serves a verified higher-output or supported backup project. Keep a suitable existing cord when it already meets the worksheet; buy the complete, correctly installed kit when it does not.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Chevrolet Equinox EV use J1772 or NACS at home?
GM groups 2026-and-earlier Equinox EVs with CCS1 vehicles, which use J1772 for home AC charging. Chevrolet lists a standard NACS port on the 2027 Equinox EV. Match the connector to the actual inlet before ordering. GM's NACS DC adapter is for fast charging; its separate NACS Level 2 adapter connects a CCS1 car to a compatible NACS home charger.
Does an Equinox EV need an 80-amp home charger?
Only consider that charging-speed upgrade after confirming the car's onboard option. The 2025 and 2026 standard AC specification is 11.5kW; their RS charging option is described as 19.2kW capable. An 80A PowerShift cannot make the standard onboard charger accept 19.2kW. Have a licensed electrician assess the circuit and compare your daily energy needs with your parking window before buying.
Does the Equinox EV come with a charging cord?
GM's 2024 feature bulletin says a charge cord is standard. Its 2025 bulletin says the dual-level cord must be ordered separately, and the 2026 specification guide makes it standard again. Check the window sticker and the actual delivered equipment, especially on a used car. These documents do not establish the included cord for a 2027 car; confirm its equipment separately.
Can I keep a working GM dual-level charge cord?
Yes, if its supported output meets your daily charging needs and an electrician approves the supply. The 2026 guide specifies a J1772 cord with interchangeable NEMA 5-15 and 14-50 plugs, rated for 1.4kW at 120V and 7.7kW at 240V. A wall charger is an upgrade to assess against your charging window, rather than an automatic replacement for equipment you already have.
Will any home charger let an Equinox EV power my house?
No. GM specifies the PowerShift Charger plus its V2H Enablement Kit, a compatible vehicle and a properly equipped home. PowerUp 2 is explicitly incompatible with that kit. The enablement kit includes a Home Hub, inverter and Dark Start Battery; installation is a separate project. Confirm VIN-specific support and, for a NACS car, the required GM adapters before ordering a backup system.
