For an EcoFlow solar panel you will move regularly, choose the NextGen 220W Bifacial; choose the classic 400W Portable when a suitable DELTA input and a larger deployment space make faster replenishment the priority. RIVER 3 Plus owners should start with the smaller size because their station caps solar input at 220W. Check the full panel name first: original, NextGen, bifacial and single-sided versions have different specifications.

Sources: original manual, NextGen Bifacial specifications and single-sided NextGen specifications. Use the model-specific specification section; EcoFlow's generation comparison also contains weight ranges covering other panels.

The NextGen Bifacial manual identifies EF-Fold-G220-04. Our check of the old US original-panel URL returned NextGen content, so we have not established a separate current US original-panel offer. Use the original here as an identification reference.

Also check the word Portable and the generation on any 400W listing. EcoFlow's Philippine 400W Lightweight bundle specifies a different panel: 10.2kg and 39.3V Voc. This article compares the classic model offered in the US portable lineup; it does not transfer those Lightweight specifications to it.

NextGen 220W Bifacial: best for frequent moves

Its integrated stand and solar angle guide make it our choice when carrying and repositioning matter. The US box list includes a protective bag and XT60i cable; the matching manual specifies a 2.5m charging cable. The 7kg figure is panel weight, so allow extra for the bag and cable.

Choose it for manageable separate loads, or a station whose solar ceiling makes a larger panel less rewarding. Rear collection is a conditional benefit: the manual says reflective surroundings help and shading reduces output. The rear rating is not guaranteed additional charging power.

Classic 400W Portable: best for more power from one panel

Choose this for a suitable DELTA input when you can accommodate its carry case and deployed size. Its 400W rating gives more front-side power than one 220W panel under comparable conditions. EcoFlow describes a protective case that doubles as the supporting stand.

Budget for 19kg including the kickstand case, using the Canadian specification table. The 16kg panel-only figure understates that carry load. Confirm the exact revision before ordering: EcoFlow's own pages disagree on weight and dimensions, as explained below.

Sources: the NextGen US table and manual; classic electrical/case figures from Canada, dimensions from EcoFlow's US specification article. Voc means open-circuit voltage; Vmp and Imp describe optimal operating voltage and current; Isc means short-circuit current.

The area estimates multiply unfolded width by length, with units converted to metres and results rounded. They describe the panel face, rather than the ground footprint when tilted. Leave room for the supporting case or brackets, cables and access; confirm the packed kit fits your storage opening.

Sources: EcoFlow manuals for RIVER 3, RIVER 3 Plus, DELTA 3 Plus and DELTA Pro 3, alongside the panel specifications above.

DELTA 3 Plus specifies 500W per port, 1000W total. Two NextGen panels have 440W of front-side rating and weigh 14 kilograms before bags and cables; evaluating one for each separate input offers carrying flexibility. One classic 400W needs only one panel deployment. Our DELTA 3 model guide helps distinguish the stations; the general panel guide covers broader panel selection.

The DELTA 3 Plus manual requires total panel Voc within 60V and total Isc within 15A. Front-side Isc alone does not establish a bifacial panel's maximum combined current under reflected light; ask EcoFlow to confirm the exact combination.

The station manuals specify XT60i for RIVER 3 Plus and DELTA 3 Plus solar charging. DELTA Pro 3 specifies XT60 for High-PV and XT60i for Low-PV. EcoFlow sells both charging-cable types, so confirm the supplied cable against the chosen port rather than the generic word “included.”

An optional EcoFlow solar extension adds 3m so the station can remain shaded while the panel receives sunlight. It extends the panel-side cable; include it in your carry inventory if needed.

Daily energy: what the bigger panel buys

Illustrative DC harvest = front rated watts × equivalent full-sun hours × 75%. Here, equivalent full-sun hours represent a day's sunlight as an equivalent duration at rated irradiance, rather than hours between sunrise and sunset. We choose a 75% realization factor for illustration; EcoFlow's general panel guidance also suggests planning below nameplate output.

Assumptions: no rear-side bonus, no station input clipping, room in the battery to accept charging, and no devices consuming the harvest. These are panel-energy scenarios before storage and inverter losses, not measured yields or charging-time promises. Table values are rounded to the nearest hundred watt-hours.

For example, 220 × 4 × 75% = 660; 400 × 4 × 75% = 1200. With an assumed daily requirement of 600 watt-hours, the smaller panel leaves little margin in that scenario before further losses. The larger panel leaves more. Substitute your local seasonal resource and actual loads; the table is not a weather forecast.

Choose from your daily energy requirement
  1. Budget consumption

Use your devices' energy needs and allow for station losses.

  2. Choose seasonal sunlight

Use local conditions for the season you will actually travel.

  3. Apply the input ceiling

A larger panel earns its keep only when the station can accept the extra power.

  4. Check the carry kit

Include the station, panel support, bag and every required cable.

Bifacial output depends on light reaching the rear. EcoFlow's NextGen page says “up to 25%” additional collection in its bullets and “up to 28%” in its body; we do not choose a guaranteed gain from that conflict. Its 220W front and 175W rear ratings describe the faces separately. Do not add them as guaranteed simultaneous output or use the rear rating to promise equivalence to a 400W panel.

How we choose

We compared official specifications and manuals, checked November 2, 2026, without physical testing. We favor US model-specific sources. Classic 400W electrical and case-weight figures come from Canada; its dimensions above come from EcoFlow's US specification article. That article gives a 105.8 × 236.5cm unfolded face, while Canada's table gives 106.8 × 239.0cm. EcoFlow's overview also says 27.5 lb, conflicting with the 35.3 lb panel specification. These conflicts make confirmation of the purchased revision necessary; we have not blended them into a claimed universal specification.

Picks reflect carry burden, daily energy and input fit. See our disclosure for how affiliate links support thisWATT.

Verdict

Choose NextGen 220W Bifacial for frequent moves and a smaller panel package. Choose classic 400W Portable for more rated power from a single deployed panel on a suitable DELTA input, provided its case weight and space requirements work for you. Match the exact generation, input and supplied cable before buying either.

Frequently asked questions

Is the original EcoFlow 220W the same as NextGen?

They have different specifications. The original manual lists a 220W front, 155W rear and 9.5kg panel. NextGen Bifacial lists a 220W front, 175W rear and 7kg panel with an integrated stand. NextGen also has a separate single-sided 220W version. Check the full product name, panel label and included accessories before choosing a bundle.

Can I use an EcoFlow 400W solar panel with RIVER 3 Plus?

Its nominal 48V open-circuit voltage and 11A short-circuit current fall inside the published input figures, but that alone is insufficient approval. RIVER 3 Plus caps solar charging at 220W and requires panel voltage below 55V. Ask EcoFlow to confirm cold-weather voltage margin and the charging cable for your exact panel revision; the smaller panel is our practical starting point.

Are two EcoFlow 220W panels better than one 400W?

Two NextGen panels total 440W of front-side nameplate power and weigh 14 kilograms before bags and cables. They also require room for both panels. DELTA 3 Plus has separate solar inputs, each limited to 500W, so evaluate a panel for each input separately. Choose the pair for carrying flexibility; choose the classic 400W for a single panel deployment.

How long will a 220W or 400W panel take to charge my station?

There is no universal charging time. Panel ratings describe power under standard conditions, while actual harvest depends on sunlight, temperature, shading and station limits. Use the daily energy scenarios below to size the panel, then allow for storage losses, devices running during charging and the battery's charging behavior. A station's maximum solar input is a ceiling, not a promise of received watts.

Does an EcoFlow portable solar panel include the charging cable?

The NextGen Bifacial manual includes a solar-to-XT60i cable, and the US classic 400W sales page says a solar-to-XT60 cable is included. Station-only packages can differ: the RIVER 3 Plus manual excludes the solar cable and DELTA 3 Plus calls it a separate purchase. Confirm the panel's box contents and the station's required cable together.
